The main thing to note about Galeão is that it sits a little outside of the city - at least from the areas predominately visited by tourists. Far less common as an arrival destination in comparison with the major international arrival city of Sao Paulo, it’s therefore far less busy and chaotic than Guarulhos. Galeão, Rio de Janeiro’s international airport, is located on an island to the north of the city center and is the airport you will arrive into on any international flight, along with many domestic flights too.
