It’s still kinda magic to place your phone on a pad or portable charger and see it get going. The mini thrill of wireless charging doesn’t get old. Nevertheless, it attaches convincingly to the back of your iPhone 12.Īlso consider: If you do want a smaller battery pack that’s more comparable in size to the Apple MagSafe Battery Pack, there’s the Belkin Magnetic Wireless Power Bank 2.5K (£29) for less than three times its price.
Only Apple products are integrated in such a way. It’s also technically not MagSafe – you won’t get the pleasing haptics or graphic when your power bank attaches. First, this larger battery pack is a size that’ll obscure your iPhone camera, so you won’t be taking photos while it’s in use. Admittedly, Apple products regularly come at a premium and it does make more of its 1,460mAh than a typical battery pack.
The Apple MagSafe Battery Pack provides a rather measly 1,460mAh for £99 compared to 10,000mAh for £40 here. The specification differences between Apple and Belkin’s option are stack. It’s speedy, pleasingly sized and can save almost all your devices from the dreaded 0%. The USB-C PD ports offer 18W charging speeds while the regular USB-A will get you 10W. This 20,000mAh charger has its size just right for slipping in a bag or backpack and the amount of juice is just right for charging your phone several times as well as giving a laptop a hefty boost – enabled by that Power Delivery (PD) compatibility.
You can get more pocket-friendly banks but they won’t get you much more than around two phone chargers. You can get larger portable chargers but they’ll likely weigh you down. The PowerCore 20000 Essential PD is the Goldilocks of power banks. The Anker PowerCore 20000 Essential PD (£50) is a reasonably sized pack that can offer ample charge to your mobile devices and, even, your laptop. While the popular charger brand has been around for some time now, it’s continued to improve and innovate upon its formula.
Think “power banks” and Anker will likely be the first brand that will come to mind.
